My sister and I went cherry picking this morning (we got 40 pounds- $1 dollar a pound- sweet!). My mom went apricot picking and brought us some of those as well so we decided to make jam. My sister took a "master preserver" class a little while ago and learned how to dehydrate, can, bottle etc. etc. pretty much everything, and she learned how to make jam enough to show me how. We did mess up on the apricot (we didn't let it thicken enough) but it still tastes great- it's just separated a little. We figured out where we went wrong and so the cherry turned out fabulously. I love cherries! We gave most of them away, including some to an elderly man, who came looking for some =p. We'll probably go pick more fruit soon (we do quite often each year) so I may just "jam" something else.
I look very interested in what i'm doing. :) and fatty. :/ oh well. remind me to take some jam home now that it's cool. we'll get better as we do this more and more.
